WAVR decided to bot 2 of my songs against my will. I contacted both Spotify and my distributor after noticing the bot streams and both of them told me that they can't do anything about it and that my music won't be effected. Unfortunately, those songs were on 2 different albums and now both albums have been removed. The kicker is that there's nothing that can be done to resolve this issue. Think it's time to go back to Soundcloud at this point... :/

Thanks for the video Ryan. Looking at some internet information on Landr, I noticed a stipulation that claims to close accounts after 90 days inactivity. My only question is: what constitutes an ‘inactive’ account?

I have a question in regard to "beats"...I put an album together of songs, All the musical and vocal performances on the album were done by me, with the exception of a harmonica part on one song my friend played. Two of the songs were written by my brother, who sadly passed away a few years ago. Another song was written by my oldest brother. Another song was written by the friend who played the harmonica part on that song. Another song was written by the same friend and myself. The rest were written by me. Is there an easy way to go about publishing/ releasing this album, give credit where credit is due, or do I need to handle each song individually as far as submitting them to being copyrighted, and then registered to BMI or ASCAP? Now the "beats" part: most of the songs I just used the drummer feature in Logic to do the drum parts for these songs, and manipulated them to fit the songs, with the exception of one song I did years ago (I would say more than 15 years ago) that I used beat loops to do, and I used more than one beat loop over the top of each other to achieve what I was wanting to hear. They were beats that I didn't purchase, but were files that a friend of mine let me use, so I anticipate the possibility that, in the remote chance that song took off in any kind of fashion, someone might recognize the beats in it, and if I made any royalties on that song, they would be due part of those royalties. The issue is that I don't know who made those beats...I no longer have those files, and only have the two track finished recording of that song, hahaha! So is it ok to still release that song on the album, and then handle what ever happens if the beats get recognized by the person who created them? I have no intent to scam anyone out of what is due to them if they are a part of the work, and it happens to make royalties. Thanks for the video, and any helpful direction you have to offer. I signed up for Landr Studio a few months ago after distributing with CD Baby for over a decade. I also researched others (I even used a spreadsheet to compare plans). Nothing came close to offering what Landr offers. There's just no comparison. My songs get inspected/approved within hours… Last time was within an hour. Before 24 hours it was on Spotify, so I was able to pitch it weeks before my release date. At this point I have no regrets and wish I would have gone with them sooner. Oh, and the mastering? I sent one of my Landr masters to an engineer friend who couldn't believe it. He said the quality of the mastering was astounding. So… Hopefully it continues to go this smoothly and I continue to be this satisfied! Edit--I did not stop using CD Baby because I was dissatisfied or anything like that. I am starting to increase the frequency of releases and going with a subscription plan for an unlimited number of releases for a certain amount is the only feasible option for me. In fact, I contacted CDB and asked if they are at least considering adding a subscription plan option. They said no. It's a no-brainer then … To release a song once or twice per month (plus mastering)? Not possible with CDB unless I want to spend $10 per release (that would be $10-$20 per month) plus mastering. With the Landr package I signed up for (I think it was something like $145 for unlimited uploads/distribution and around 30 mastered WAV files per year), it's just a smarter move.

DEM BLOCK ACTUAL ARTISTS WHO HAVE NOT SOLD THEIR SOULS FROM TAKING OVER A BUSINESS AND MARKET THAT BELONGS TO US, INDEPENDENT SOVEREIGN ARTISTS. STOP RIGGING SYSTEMS. Spotify's management owes me its blood and deepest apologies. I have most of my catalogue with distrokid but I recently signed a distribution deal with a label and they distribute via a Universal Music subsidiary which is big here in India. My latest single that I distributed with them got added to one such fake playlist, I was running hardcore FB ads and had a very successful campaign so the playlist couldn't mess up my data too much but they did have an affect. But I've not been flagged or recieved a notice of any kind, I'd probably just let these losers keep trying their luck but they're obviously not gonna get a single penny from me. I feel if you are with a good distributor it helps a lot. Leaving this here hoping it helps someone. Cheers!

our song got removed from spotify today for artificial streams. spotify says talk to distrokid and distrokid says talk to spotify. we didn’t pay for streams and we don’t even know how to…was hoping to find some answers on youtube :( spotify says all we can do is prove they are real streams and we have no idea how to do that. Wondering if your video is what happened to us too.

Thanks so much for breaking this down! My band The Electric Splash is about to release an EP and we're deciding which way to go. Our recording engineer said he uses CD Baby and told us a horror story that one of his clients used Distrokid and had their music taken down from all the platforms because their debit card was compromised, thus canceled, and when the automatic payment didn't go through. Thanks for helping us decide!

All depends on your "what ifs". What if you release a single every month for a few years, not bothering with any of the totally unecessary Distrokid extras. You don't need to pay the Legacy fee as long as your paying your annual fee. So I suspect you've got some double accounting right there. The lifetime legacy is for if you DON'T pay the annual fee. Then suppose they don't pay your Distrokid annual fee, so they take down your music. For one, you could just redistribute using another distributer. For two, you could just pay for the best songs anyway, Spotify royalties being mostly useless for most of us. Maybe CD Baby seems best for those who release a few songs (or 1 or 2 albums) per year, and get a lot more streams from them? If you're prolific and releasing far more, while only in the 10's of thousands of streams level, Distrokid will work out cheaper. Once you're streaming millions a month, then wouldn't you move on from either of these DIY , Indie distributors?

I need help because I noticed distrokid doesn’t pay as high as the other ones I’ve been researching about and I got over 1.8 million streams on one of my latest songs in the past two months but I feel like the payout wasn’t as high as it should be and according to studies I’m correct . You should look at the Trust Pilot reviews of these companies. All are mostly negative. And go through the Terms of Service like how Miss Krystle, the Top Music Attorney does.
